BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide based on a sequence identified in gastric juice, marketed for healing tendons, ligaments, muscle, gut, and joints. It is not an approved drug, supplement, or food anywhere; most products carry 'research use only' labels — a legal workaround, not a quality or safety signal.
How it works
In animal and lab studies it appears to promote angiogenesis (new blood-vessel growth via VEGF), up-regulate the growth-hormone receptor on tendon cells, and activate the FAK-paxillin pathway that helps cells migrate to and adhere at an injury — plus antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
What the evidence shows
The animal data are genuinely interesting and replicated across labs and injury models. The honest caveat: nearly all of it is preclinical (rats, cells), not humans. Systematic reviews in sports medicine reach the same conclusion — promising signals, but a near-total absence of well-controlled human trials. Effective/safe dose and long-term risk in people are unknown.
